Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors (VRC)

Q: What is a VRC?

A: A VRC is a lift used to move material only (not people) between floors or to a mezzanine.

Q:Are VRCs permitted in NYC?

A: VRCs are inspected and permitted by the NYC DOB Elevator Division. They must be manufactured and installed to comply with NYC building codes.

Q: What types of companies use VRCs?

A: In the tri-state area, every square foot is costly. We have installed VRC in applications including:

  • Retail stores: VRCs carry stock between floors. Accessing a basement, upper floors or a mezzanine can maximize your sales area. Whether your stock is greeting cards or automobiles, a VRC could help make the most of your square footage.
  • Offices: VRCs are used in high rise buildings to allow material movement between floors without using the public elevators. We have done this in offices with security concerns and office kitchen applications.
  • Kitchens and restaurants: VRCs are used to move everything from beer kegs to racks of prepared foods between floors.
  • Apartment buildings: To get garbage bags out of the basement.

Q: Why install a VRC instead of an elevator?

A: The cost of a VRC and construction work is less. If you need to move material and not people, a VRC is a solution worth investigating.
